MY FAVOURITE SINGER

There are many different types of singers from all over the world.  One of my favorite singers is Pnadith W.D. Amaradeva. He is currently the greatest singer and musician ever born in Sri Lanka. That is why he is called the " HELAYE  MAHA  GANDHARVA". Mr. Amaradeva was born on December 5, 1927. Amaradeva was the youngest of a family of six children, born to Don Ginoris Perera and Maggie Weslina Mendis. As a child, Amaradeva received his musical inspiration from his father.💓😊 His elder brother was also an Indian Classical Music teacher.   Wimala Amaradeva is Amaradeva's beloved wife💑💓.


Mr. W.D. Amaradeva is a respected artist who nurtured the field of Sinhala music with North Indian Ragadhari Music. He has combined Sinhala folk music and Bharatha folk music with his instruments such as Sitar, Tabla and Harmonium. He is also a very talented violinist. During the filming of "ASHOKAMALA" the music director of the film, Mohamed Gauss Master, approached Amaradeva as the lead violinist in his band💓🎻🎼.


He was educated at the Bhatkhand Music College. He has returned to Sri Lanka and worked with the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. As a melodious singer, lyricist, music director and orchestrator, he was committed to nurturing the Sri Lankan music industry in a variety of directions.  💓💓

Poetic dramas composed by Amaradeva include music such as "KARADIYA", "NALADAMAYANTHI" , films ( Ran Muthu Duwa, Gamperaliya, Ran Salu, Delowak Atare, Gatawarayo, Rena Girawu, Thunman Handiya etc. ) Nurthi (WESSANTHARA) as well as radio.  And thousands of songs sung for TV shows and a large number of musical compositions composed for others.


The name Amaradeva is not limited to Sri Lanka. He was a man of the age who brought fame and respect to Sri Lanka by gaining many honors in many foreign countries as well. We lost such a valuable man of the age on November 3, 2016😓😓. His death was caused by a sudden heart attack. He was eighty years old at the time of his death😞😞. 

I was lucky to see him with my own eyes. I got that opportunity because of the program called "HADAWARA  MANGALYA"  started by a group including Mr.Jagath Wickramasinghe.  Although he died, he is still alive among us.💓
